DONNA CARROLL

Where it all began…Fell in love in 1997, my 1st Newf Pearl.  Then came Tucker Newf/Pyr/Saint X, a rescue.  Another Newf rescue Jewel.  Tugboat (Tugger) is our current Newf.  We received an email from NPD, someone wanting to surrender a puppy named Bear (10 months old). We were going to check out the situation, but after seeing how he was living, we had to bring him home with us.  Not bad people just not educated. Bear was in a crate in the finished basement.  They took him out to introduce us, holding him by the collar.  Took him out to go the bathroom, still holding his collar.  Told us he barks a lot, especially when their 3yr old gets on top of the crate. Never seen a house with a Newf without hair/fur.  We believed Bear spent most of the day in the crate.  When they got him, he was a cute little 8-week-old black ball of fur.  They didn't know in a few short months He was going to be 125 lbs. They made the right decision contacting NPD.  They had all his things packed hoping we were going to take him.  We could not leave him there, so we took him home to foster.  He enjoyed running/playing in the yard with our other 2 dogs. He got along with the cats & humans, so Tugger joined the family.

BOB FRANKENFIELD

Bob is a native of the Lehigh Valley and is currently the director of a small nonprofit homeless agency in northwest new jersey. He spent his entire career working in human services in that area and has had the pleasure of having many dogs in his lifetime, mostly large breeds, his favorite being newfoundlands and their mixes. All but 2 of the 15 dogs in his life were adopted. He currently has a 10-year-old golden retriever certified therapy dog and a new addition, a 10-month-old newfoundland mix named Maxwell Smart. He has foster experience, and though his family is grown, he passed his affection and love of canines to his children, who both have dogs in their lives. He believes that people never “own” dogs but that the dogs are part of the household to be respected and cared for, never neglected, and abandoned on a chain outdoors. He has strong feelings about puppy mills and irresponsible breeding that skips basic health and genetic precautions, causing many ill health issues, premature death, behavior issues, and unwanted, abandoned dogs. The dogs bred irresponsibly pay the price, and often that is an untimely demise or unhealthy life.
